New beginnings |
My first encounter with Pokemon was so long ago. I remember Pokemon's very first wave of popularity was when I was in 3rd grade. Basically when it first released in America. Everyone in the school was obsessed with Pokemon cards and and all my classmates would pay me a dollar for me to draw a pokemon for them. I was such an avid Pokemon card collector back then.
When I look back, that's when my love for Pokemon probably took root. |
When the GB games came out, I was estatic! Having the visuals in front of you, almost as if you were really there in that world, was amazing. I went through Pokemon Red, Yellow, Gold and Crystal pretty quickly. I pretty much lived on Pokemon during this time.
A while after that, many of my friends grew out of Pokemon. I could no longer talk about it like I used to, because people didn't care anymore. I was in middle school and easily influenced into other areas of interest. Despite that, I would still play the games in the comfort of my room, skim through my card collection at night before I sleep, and watch the show during the early morning airings. |
For some reason, when you get older, people get so much more nostalgic. A lot of people went back to Pokemon in high school, buying a DS and the new Pokemon games, and playing it during lunch or study hall.
This peaked my interest, so I dug around the internet for a few days and found an Arcanine Banpresto plush for sale. I bought it. This started my craving for more collectible items. In my search, I came across the LiveJournal community, PKMNcollectors. I lurked for a while, learning new things, and eventually joined. The rest is pretty much history :) |
